The Inevitable

February 25, 2008 · 4 Comments

Faisal Amin was not a good friend of mine, but just a friend. We never spent more than 20 minutes together, with one exception, when we spent the whole day together when we went to attend a workshop, and on that day too he was so excited, after hearing from his manager about him being announced as Employee of the Year, that he had very less time to spare with anybody along with. So we neither talked much that day even. During these short interaction-intervals, we never talked life, we never talked business and we once talked office-work. Then what we talked? Well we talked jokes, we talked politics, we talked university, we talked industry, we talked jobs and we talked people.

He was always in a hurry, as if something is waiting to be completed (by him). Throwing words at you, at the speed of a Jet Fighter, he would either pass by, or wait for your words staring at you straight in the eyes. He had a little more energy than what he could handle. This extra energy always kept him on his toes. So was evident in his work. So much hard work, and never tired. And still willing to continue with that.

He passed away this Friday, while saving the life of his pal, who was drowning. He didn’t know how to swim, but he jumped in. He couldn’t stop himself from doing so. And as a result, drowned himself too. He was such a friend. Not caring for his life, if someone else’s is at stack. Few are people like him.

It was such a shock when I got the news, that I was motionless for a while. Stunned. How could this happen? But then, its the Lord, who can make any & everything happen. And then its us, who see this happening around us, and still not learn. We understand that we are not sure if we gonna wake up in the morning when we sleep, or if we gonna sleep in our bed tonight when we wake up for the day, and still we do not submit.  Aaaah. Silly us.

May Allah bless you my dear friend, I am sad at your death. I still remember your smiling face which still shakes the image my eyes saw today. Your face makes it difficult for me to believe that you are no more amongst us. May you always continue to smile this way, in your new journey as well.

Aameen !!!

Your remedy is within you …

February 14, 2008 · 1 Comment

“Your remedy is within you, but you do not sense it. Your sickness is from you, but you do not perceive it. You presume you’re a small entity, but within you is enfolded the entire universe. You are indeed the evident book, by whose alphabet the hidden becomes manifest. Therefore you have no need to look beyond yourself. What you seek is whitin you, if only you reflect.”

(Hazrat Ali R.A.)

An unusual drive

February 11, 2008 · 2 Comments

I sincerely pray that you never have such an experience, but somehow, have you ever driven an accidented car? Particularly if you have hit it from front? If you did, you know how it feels when everybody looks, first at car, share some comments with their along-with, which you obv cannot hear, and then at you, as if you are some alien creature who doesn’t know that a car in this condition should be in the workshop and not on the road :)

It was all eyes on my way home today evening. People looking at my car with somewhat disbelief I would say or whatever that was. Regardless of the state they were in, driving a car, on a motor cycle, on a bicycle, on foot, all alike, looking in one & the same direction. I was feeling like a prince :) , and I actually enjoyed their expressions, despite the fact that some of them might be talking some pity about me, something on the lines, bachare ki nai gari lag gae, or may be something like, duffer! gari mar di, or may be something like, bach ke chalo us ki to pehle hi lagi hue hey, tumhen bi mare ga , or whatever , but I enjoyed it.

Ohh did I forget to tell you that I hit my car into a police vehicle the other day? A double-cabin-pickup infact. And the DSP sb who was a comparatively nice person, and was seated in the pickup, was kind enough to call me up in his office to charge a sum of 400 rupees for the damage caused by the accident? He entertained us, me n my cousin, with tea and samosas and vegetable roles, and we discussed the details of his shikar venture on this Sunday over the cup of tea. And the meeting ended with exchanges of smiles from both ends :)

Although the car had it quite hard, all of us who were inside are safe. Thanks to The Lord.

Do tell me if you had any such experience :)

BUSIness or BLOODIness

February 8, 2008 · 8 Comments

I went to a computer-composing shop (at saddar) today evening to have a couple of pages, 3 to be precise, scanned. I just realized that I do not have my flash-drive with me. I told the guy at the shop and asked if he can do me a favor and email the scanned documents to my email? To which he said, “Sure”.

Once he was done, he emailed and closed the window. I asked him to delete the files from disk as well as from Sent folder in his mailbox. So he opened the browser again and deleted from mailbox as well, after deleting from disk.

All went well till I asked the guy how much to pay? The dialogue that followed went something like:

the guy: 50 rupees.

me: 50? At what rate?

the guy: 10 rupees per page.

me: And there are 3 pages. That  makes 30.

the guy: 20 for email.

me: (you can imagine how my face would have been looking) What ?

the guy: (very calmly) yup.

me: You are charging for an email? Courtesy bi koi cheeze hoti he yaar.

the guy: (braggingly) We are using a DSL connection.

me: So … ?

me: OK. And why 20 rupees for an email? If you have to charge me.

the guy: 10 rupees for an email.

me: (a bit of @#$%) and what is the other 10 for?

the guy: I had to open the mailbox again to delete the file. Bandwidth use hoti he.

me: <speechless @ this bloodiness>

I mean, gimme a break.

It makes sense to do business but our shopkeepers need to learn the norms. We should not be leaches to suck as much as possible. We should be humans. We, after all, are humans; the vicegerents of the Lord of the Lords.

Dr Aur Billa

Yeah, who else? First few lines from Dr Aur Billa’s latest.

Remember their awesomish videos like No Love, Khel, Na Kia Kar Yaar and more than all, Jeeney Do ? These guys were, and still are, matchless. They have such an originality, or as you call it, khasta-pan, in their work that you can’t resist watching it, adoring it and enjoying it.

And as you would expect from Jawad, they are kind enough to put all their awesomish songs and videos on their website available for download for free :) . So if you were looking for any of their mater pieces, you can get it from there.

There are three albums so far:

- Greatest Hits

- 2nd Album

- Choro Pyar Wyar

All amazing.

And telling the reason for selecting this name on their site:

Why Dr. aur Billa? Now this question is as old as time itself, but here you go… Because ‘Compounder aur Kutta’ sounded weird man!

:)
