Gulon main rang bhare

January 6, 2008 · 5 Comments

Yeah, its here on my blog too :)

The ones who know me, would know; if they are talking about me & they are talking about humming, they are talking about Gulon main rang bhare, baad-e-nau bahar chalay, the master piece.

Although everybody tells me that I am really bad at singing, and in particular at this ghazal, but I know, they are all kidding :)

Anyway what triggered this post is this video that I came across while googling the ghazal. The interesting part is the movements the-guy-in-the-video makes, may be trying to depict Mehdi Hassan. I don’t know if he actually succeeds in his depiction, but he surely creates fun while doing so.

Online video-posting-facilities, such as YouTube, have become a tool for home-artists to boost themselves. Which is good. Although this one comes from Yahoo Video, and the guy doesn’t feel bad neither at ears nor at eyes.

Among few interesting things I saw while googling was, Faiz Ahmed Faiz used to say about this ghazal, that its no more mine, its Mehdi Hassan’s now [ Ab ye meri thori hi rahi he, ye to Mehdi Hassan ki he]. And Google search page agrees to what Faiz sb said. You only get one result pointing to Faiz sb, the first one, and rest are all pointing to Mehdi Hassan, to his credit.

Also, this ghazal was Mehdi Hassan’s first on Pakistani media. He debuted in 1952 from Radio Pakistan Lahore, where he recorded this ghazal.

Yes, we also have the real version available on YouTube

And just to add to your read, I am putting it here:

The whole of it is great but the Maqta, awesome !!!

P.S. There are few misspelled words in Urdu script, please ignore those.
